1. Get You - Daniel Caesar, Kali Uchis
- Genre: Contemporary R&B
- Overview: A story about love and self-expression
- Narrative: The story follows the trains of thoughts of the protagonists - a couple who’s deeply in love with each other. They make each other feel so cared for and loved that they question if they deserve the love they’re given.
- Performance elements: Lip-syncing
- Possible setups:
- Indoors with soft colour lighting
- Somewhere in nature (park, forest, field)
- Somewhere that has water (beach, stream, river)
- Strengths:
- I like this song more than the other option → more motivated
- I feel like this narrative has a lot of potential to be expanded and developed
- Some setups (for example, the indoors) don’t require a lot of props or advanced technology
- Weaknesses/difficulties:
- Since the song is a duo, it might be a bit difficult to find two actors that can act as a couple
- Since the song’s genre is R&B, it could be quite hard to push the dynamic of the music video
2. Khó Để Yêu - Vũ Thanh Vân
- Genre: Indie Pop
- Overview: A confession of a young woman doubting her self-worth, learning to love herself and embrace that love
- Narrative: A young woman, who considered herself unattractive, ‘not the prettiest one in the room’ and invisible, learn how to open her heart to love and to be loved, as well as to recognise her self-worth and wins over the little thoughts in her head telling her she’s unlovable.
- Performance elements: Lip-syncing, band performance
- Possible setups:
- Public places (museum, sidewalk, somewhere that has a lot of people)
- Indoor with lyrics projected on the walls
- Indoors in different places of the house (sofa, bedroom, kitchen)
- Strengths:
- The narrative is quite relatable, so I could work with it more comfortably
- Doesn’t require a lot of advanced technology or props
- Weaknesses/difficulties:
- I like this song less than the other option → could be a bit biased when deciding which one I should go with
- The song is quite long, and there are parts that I’m not really fond of (e.g. the intro which is nearly a minute long)
